Farmers’ markets are one of the oldest forms of direct marketing by small farmers.  For thousands of years growers all over the world have gathered weekly to sell their produce directly to the public.  This tradition continues weekly in Port Royal, South Carolina.

The Port Royal Farmers Market will be open through Dec 17th, 8:30-12:30. Closed Christmas and New Year's Eves. We will reopen Jan 7th, from 10-12 through March. We will return to regular hours in April.

At the Port Royal Farmers’ Market you and your family will experience a true southern tradition of locally grown produce, fresh fruits and vegetables, seafood, and plants.  Join us on Saturdays during the months of April through December from 8:30am to 12:30pm as you sample locally prepared food, honey and cheese while enjoying local music and entertainment.  The Port Royal Farmers’ Market is fun for the entire family! Don’t miss out on one of the best farmers’ markets in the Lowcountry!

Why Shop At Our Farmers’ Market
A farmers’ market is a wholly traditional way of selling agricultural and home manufactured products.  In many towns and villages across the globe the primary means of income for the townsfolk is farming and weekly markets are a part of normal existence.  Markets were integral to society and a part of everyday life for our ancestors.

Farmers markets saw a decline in popularity due to urbanization and intensive farming. With the advent of the supermarket and hypermarket people grew used to purchasing their produce pre-packaged and lost interest in food in general.  It is only recently that consumers have become more informed about worldwide transport and produce grown with the use of chemicals and preservatives that farmers’ markets became popular again.  People are once again taking an interest in the seasonality of food and the boom in organic produce has done nothing but help the growth of the farmers’ markets.
