Planning

The Planning Department provides guidance and support to residents, businesses, and developers to encourage responsible, incremental growth for the Town while ensuring development applications are aesthetically appropriate and protect the quality of life and welfare of its residents. The department is responsible for the following duties:

  • Provides analysis and education on land use matters
  • Administers the design review process and regulations of the Port Royal Code, a New Urbanist form-based code
  • Coordinates the Town's long range planning efforts and initiatives
  • Acts as staff support to the Planning Commission, Design Review Board, Zoning Board of Adjustments and Appeals, and Historic Preservation Committee
  • Collaborates with other agencies and jurisdictions on regional planning
